Sažetak
This paper describes the activity of Hvar's jurist and musician Ambro (Ambroz) Novak in the field of music criticism and presents his published critiques, feuilletons and essays in daily and weekly newspapers and magazines in the period between 1917 and 1925. In spite of relatively (time wise) short episode of Novak’s intensive career as a critic and music publicist, he published at least seventy-four articles and reviews in relevant national daily papers (Hrvatska njiva, Savremenik, Književni jug, Narodni list, Domovina, Jugoslavenska obnova – njiva, Kritika, Novo doba), that needed to be read, analysed and evaluated more thoroughly in order to rightfully put Novak’s name on the merit order curve of representative Croatian music critics between the two world wars. Contemporary readings and evaluation of his published works were research focus of this paper.
