Sažetak
Air pollution is one of the largest global environmental and public health problems. In addition to natural causes of pollution such as wildfires and volcanoes, there is an increasing number of artificially produced particles and gases that cause pollution. It is estimated that over 4 million people die every year from diseases associated with air pollution . Extreme examples in patients who have been exposed to excessive amounts of air pollutants for a long time, such as some occupational diseases, suggest cautious monitoring and researching air quality. Even small amounts of pollutants present in the air have an impact on health. According to the global monitoring of air quality, the vast majority of world population inhale air whose pollution level exceeds WHO guideline limits. It is not only that air pollution causes and exacerbates lung diseases but has a negative impact on many other organic systems and health conditions. The most severe among them are oncological diseases. The most common air pollutants in a world are sulfur dioxide (SO2), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), particulate matter (PM10 and PM2, 5), and ground ozone (O3). The aim of this study is to comprehend the current relevant knowledge about their oncogenic potential and their pathways in oncogenesis.
