Sažetak
This expository paper establishes the role played by the theory of strong shape and strong homology in relation to homotopy theory and homology theories. First it is noted that on finite polyhedra or even on compact ANR’s all the homology theories coincide and are characterized by the famous Eilenberg-Steenrod axioms. But then it is pointed out that for spaces with bad local properties singular homology theory is not sufficiently sensitive. For example the “Warsaw circle”, which separates the plane, has trivial singular homology groups and trivial homotopy groups.
