Sažetak
The paper analyses the role and impact of the New economy on the structure and growth of international trade, generally and particularly for the transition countries. Since the term New economy is closely related to information and communication technologies (ICTs), we analyse essentially trade in ICT products on the sample of ten transition countries and Croatia. We are using several indicators: share of ICT sector in total export and import, growth rates of ICT export and import and trade balance of ICT sector in transition countries. The paper shows that the most of the reported countries (except Hungary and Estonia) have still not been important exporters and importers of ICTs, but the value of their ICT trade outpaced the value of aggregate trade. The growth of ICT imports was significant in all countries, indicating that they are becoming intesive users of ICT products, which is important for their further trade prospects and process of restructuring that is driven by new technologies and their externalities.
