Sažetak
The bordering areas are often "blessed" with a number of attractive natural and anthropogenic resources. It is necessary to evaluate tourism resources of bordering areas comparatively, coordinate the tourism infrastructure and policy of leisure time and form a common strategy for tourism development of bordering areas. The attention should be focused on complementary upgrading of tourism resources in the bordering areas as a unique, distinctive and competitive unity. Single market and European economic and monetary union (EMU) are created with the target of enlargement and to improve cross border cooperation in Europe today. To help bordering areas to benefit from the cross border cooperation, the European Union offers series of tools for tourism cooperation projects. Most of the tourists in the European Union cross the borders while they are traveling. Because of the Schengen agreement, of the freedom of crossing European borders, of establishment and of provision of services the European Union represents favourable destinations of international tourism. Many authors in their papers highlight the need for establishing cross border cooperation of neighbouring countries and forming a common strategy for tourism development of the bordering areas. That often involves the formation of cross border tourist destinations. The attitudes of tourists on the formation of cross border cooperation in tourism of bordering areas of the Republic of Croatia and the Republic of Slovenia are the purpose of this research. Tourists who were located in the bordering areas of the Republic of Croatia and the Republic of Slovenia in July and August 2013 were the subject of this research. The results of the research confirm the thesis that the tourists who visit the bordering areas of Slovenia or Croatia want to visit the bordering areas of Croatia or Slovenia at the same time. Also, tourists who visit the bordering areas of the Republic of Croatia and the Republic of Slovenia prefer tourism products of cross border cooperation.
