Sažetak
The study demonstrates the applicability of a particular class of structural equation models in providing validity evidence of psychological measurement instruments. The presentation will focus on the analysis of metric quality of an instrument designed under the situational judgement methodology and intended to measure the ability to manage one’s own and others’ emotions. Situation judgment test items are typically composed of short descriptions of situations relevant for the measured construct with several behavioral response options reflecting a person’s appraisals of the effectiveness of the behavior suggested within each option. While this type of tests is regularly used in organizational psychology and personnel selection for their favorable predictive validity, the dimensionality of such instruments is often questionable. Based on the latent state-trait psychometric framework (LST ; Steyer at al., 1992, 2015), this study tested several multi-construct structural equation models against the emotional management data to identify the portions of the observed variability in test scores which can be attributed to dispositional and/or to situation-related factors. The analyses are based on panel data collected in two time points with adolescent samples (N=523). The estimated amount of situation-specific variance appeared to be smaller or even negligent compared to trait related variance but differed across subsamples defined by gender and age groups, and in particular with time points and the instrument used. The paper may be of interest to psychologists, related social scientists and statisticians dealing with measurement issues and applications of structural equation modeling in general.
