Sažetak
The chapter discusses the forms and types of interaction between the participants in the process of learning foreign languages realized with modern information and communication technologies (ICT) based on recent experiences from Croatia and Russia. The authors examine the range of technological means (software and network services) assisting the language teacher in building a more comfortable learning environment for university students and lifelong learners (including distance learning, more diverse forms of working with language material and formats of communication between the subjects). Such technologies are highly beneficial in terms of new opportunities and better flexibility in the (self-)organization of learning process. Moreover, they contribute to developing not only linguistic skills but also social communicative competence in general. The study confirms positive results in overcoming such obstacles for language learning as lack of self- confidence and low motivation. At the same time, the massive introduction of ICT creates a number of challenges from the transformation of the approach to language learning itself to the need for forecasting and reducing possible negative consequences of technological teaching aids. The chapter analyzes the prospects and limitations of using ICT in forming communicative competence and the issues of integrating new and traditional technologies in the learning process.
