Sažetak
Site selectivity of predatory boreholes is a well-known phenomenon in modern and ancient shells. A broken oyster valve from the Upper Pliocene of Rambla de la Sepultura in the Almeria-Nijar Basin, south-east Spain, is encrusted by multiple specimens of juvenile oysters and balanid barnacles close to Balanus perforatus. At least nine of these barnacles bear drill holes, commonly singly, of Oichnus simplex type, probably produced by a muricid gastropod. This predator attacked the balanid shells close to the base of the cone, thus avoiding the attention of the cirri.
