Sažetak
Given the development of environmental legislation and the guidelines of the International Maritime Organization, shipowners must choose propulsion systems that will enable them to hold in the market. Natural gas, as a substitute for liquid fuel used by marine diesel engines, is a transitional acceptable solution that meets the requirements of overseas navigation. However, other technical and technological solutions that use natural gas as a fuel are also available. A significant place belongs to the combined plants with gas and steam turbine with mechanical transmission (Combined Gas and Steam - COGAS) and combined plants with gas and steam turbine with electric transmission (Combined Gas, Electric and Steam - COGES). This paper analyzes the application of COGES systems whose main advantages are lower mass, volume, noise and vibration levels and lower emissions of harmful substances compared to systems with diesel engines.
