Sažetak
Nowadays, many municipalities have a need for closed, or even open spaces that can host a defined number of visitors, to be used for a multitude of applications, although they were not built with this purpose in mind. Thus, many public spaces are used for a variety of applications, ranging from spaces for conferences, lectures and other speech related applications, events for acoustical or amplified music, exhibition spaces, cinemas, theatres, and many others. This is equally true for historical spaces that are attractive for visitors also because of their elevated significance, as well as for contemporary spaces that are available to the local community and must be used regardless of their acoustic suitability, often simply as there is no alternative. Many acoustical parameters are designed for evaluation of the acoustical quality of spaces. Although they are not intended to be used to evaluate unconventional, or temporal spaces for various uses (e.g. using a concrete industry hall as a theatre, or a stone atrium as a concert venue), these parameters can still be used as a rule of thumb for a coarse evaluation of their suitability for a special use case or event, if needed. To help non-professionals and laymen to participate in this evaluation, the authors of this paper proposed a simple visual aid to assess the possibility of using unconventional spaces for conventional use by using colour coded evaluation tables/graphs which visually help in the quality evaluation. This approach was used to assess the usability of a several historical spaces in the old medieval town of Dubrovnik, but also to assess some contemporary spaces that are frequently used as classical multipurpose halls, although not being built for such purpose.
