Sažetak
Atherosclerotic lower extremity artery disease (LEAD) is a growing public health care problem. A larger burden of LEAD is expected in the future due to demographic trends toward aging, the projected rise in important risk factor, and the chronic nature of the disease. A rational diagnostic approach is mandatory to provide appropriate patientsʹ care. Anklebrachial index (ABI) as physiologic diagnostic test and duplex ultrasonography (DUS) as a combination of physiologic and morphologic test, are well established noninvasive tools in diagnostics and follow-ups. Less attention is dedicated to other simple noninvasive physiologic tests, even if they can help vascular professionals with more accurate and safer patient management. Besides resting ABI, functional noninvasive tests include pulse volume recordings (PVR), segmental pressure measurement, Doppler waveform analysis, treadmill ABI, toe-brachial index (TBI), and transcutaneous oxygen pressure (TcPO2).With the systematic use of simple noninvasive tests, we can avoid the overuse of expensive, potentially harmful diagnostic methods. By providing hemodynamic information these tests are also helpful in revascularisation consideration.
