Sažetak
Maize yield increase is associated with crop density increase to some level. The aim of this study was to examine the influence of different plant densities in rain-fed and irrigation cropping system on maize hybrids of different FAO maturity groups during 21-year period. In rain-fed cropping, dependence between average grain yield and precipitation was positive, but between yield and average temperature, interdependence was negative. Irrigation diminished impact of meteorological factors. In favorable conditions, the highest yields could be achieved at the highest densities, irrespective to maturity group. Negative influence of meteorological factors could be partly reduced by increase in plant density, indicating that 59, 523 and 69, 686 plants ha-1 could be recommended in rain-fed conditions, while under irrigation 59, 523 plants ha -1 could be recommended for FAO 300-400, and 69, 686 plants ha-1 for FAO 500-700 maize hybrids.
