Sažetak
One of the diplomatic privileges in customary international law is the so-called droit de chapelle, or the right to have a chapel of one’s religion installed in the diplomatic premises. This right has been created by the practice of states and opinion juris resulting from wars that plunged Europe of early modern times and ending with the cuius regio, eius religio principle. After freedom of religion and human rights have established themselves as fundamentals of international legal order, it seems that droit de chapelle is an outdated privilege. Many textbooks on diplomatic law regard it as such. On the other hand, it might be used to provide services for adherents of different religions in states that do not allow for religious pluralism. This presentation will look into the history of the droit de chapelle and its possible relevance in contemporary states in which freedom of religion is endangered or non-existent.
