Sažetak
In this paper, we are going to present the history of a project that is currently being implemented at the Old Church Slavonic Institute and funded by the Croatian Science Foundation. The subject of this study is the Novak Missal from 1368, a famous Glagolitic Missal known for its illumination and for serving as a model for the earliest Croatian incunabulum, a Roman Missal written in Glagolitic script and printed in 1483, which is the oldest non-Latin printed Missal overall. A group of researchers, including the two of us, created a website with a virtual exhibition for the 650th anniversary of the Missal, that was presented at elementary schools as part of the European Researchers' Night popularization project. The website contains all relevant information about the Missal, to which we added an interactive map showing locations where the codex has previously been kept, as well as interactive games inspired by the codex itself. While our initial step was to take a fresh look at medieval manuscripts written in the Glagolitic script in order to engage young people in medieval cultural heritage, our next step was to launch new scholarly research on Glagolitic Missals, with the Novak Missal as a starting point. Our goal is to use the Missal's digital processing (in XML) and interdisciplinary research (liturgical history, philology, and history) as a model for dealing with Glagolitic heritage, as well as to contribute to further research into medieval liturgical texts.
