Sažetak
In contemporary art, a growing trend is the use of non-human animals in works of art to convey, according to artists, relevant social messages that possess aesthetic properties. This paper focuses on ethical criticism and relevant approaches to ethical criticism in art that seek to justify, explain, or interpret the use of non- human animals in art: the production-oriented approach and the perspectivist approach. Perspectivist portrayal, in my opinion, fails to justify the use of non-human animals in works of art. I believe that the structure of justification by which proponents of perspectivist portrayal invoke the importance of action in defense of its ethical and political merits is inadequate. I follow the view of Ted Nannicelli (2020) and argue that the treatment of non-human animals as a means of conveying messages in art is ethically flawed, and by knowing the content of creating such a work of art, it becomes aesthetically flawed. I think this topic is important because we influence relations in society and the attitudes of future generations by justifying ethically flawed work. It is necessary to assess the correct way to evaluate such works of art and allow their production in the public domain.
