Sažetak
160 years ago our Museum had in its possession a herbarium collection of vascular plants of some 6000 specimens. It was stored in the Museum until 1875, when it was donated to the Department of Botany, University of Zagreb where it became the foundation of their present herbarium. During integration of museums (1987), which emerged from former National Museum, into the Croatian Natural History Museum, Botanical department and new Herbarium collection were established. In 1996 collection was included in herbaria register «Index Herbariorum» with acronym CNHM. Today collection consists of two herbaria: «Herbarium of higher plants» collected during field research and bought «Herbarium Trinajstic» which together comprise about 100000 specimens. Main aim of the Botanical department is its future development. The role of our Museum as central national institution for natural history also includes herbarium documentation connection between all museum herbarium collections in Croatia.
