Sažetak
Information today is one of the most important resources of economic activities. Since the basic role of information is to create the basis for decision-making, it is important to identify the types and sources of information that positively affect sensemaking and consequent decision-making by potential entrepreneurs in the formation of new ventures, which is significantly different in a crisis environment as it is today – caused by the COVID-19 virus pandemic. The objectives of this paper are: a) to identify the types and sources of public information important for the process of making sense before and during a pandemic ; b) to investigate the effect of this process (sensemaking) on starting new entrepreneurial ventures in the Republic of Croatia during the COVID19 virus pandemic and notice such ventures’ characteristics. During the development of the empirical part of the research, qualitative and quantitative methodological procedures were used, which include data collection methods through interviews and surveys of entrepreneurs from the database of the business support institution Business Incubator Klis (and FINInfo), while in desk research, secondary data on the considered topic were collected, which are necessary for the preparation of the theoretical part of the paper. The results indicate that daily public information via web portals has the greatest impact on starting an entrepreneurial venture. The most important effect of this process is manifested not only through the number of new business ventures, but also through the evident application of new techniques and technologies on one hand, and a more creative and personal approach focused on customer requirements and needs on the other hand.
