Sažetak
Although we can trace the environmental history thought back to the Old-World writers and philosophers, modern environmental history, embedded in scientific methods and procedures, and particularly as defined and/or institutionalized (trans)disciplinary field, begun to emerge only in the 20th century. This review will draw attention to the particular development of environmental history thought, approaches and research in Croatia. The institutionalization maybe even placed at the very beginning of the 21st century, by introducing the university courses of Environmental history (within geography study) and Ecohistory (within history study), foundation of Economic and Ecohistory Society and its interdisciplinary journal and organizing conferences at various levels, including also the 9th ESEH conference in 2017. The rapid development may be seen notably following the first thematically focused conference on Eco-history of the Triplex Confinium (c. 1500-1800). However, the origins of environmental history research may be found much earlier. The first screening of the research in Croatia, taken ten years ago, marked geography and history as two core disciplines in environmental history research in Croatia. The review will mark the development paths, main thematic and methodological approaches and topics of environmental history research since the beginning of the scientific based research, as well as some possible perspectives.
