Sažetak
Ruđer Bošković Institute (RBI) was founded in 1950 and today is the biggest Croatian scientific and research institute, covering a range of scientific fields: chemistry, physics, mathematics, biology, biomedicine, electronics, information technology and computing and environmental sciences. What connects the Institute and its Centre for Scientific Information (CSI) with EURASLIC and IAMSLIC community are RBI’s two divisions: Division for Marine and Environmental Research in Zagreb and Center for Marine Research in Rovinj. The Ruđer Bošković Institute Library was founded the same year as the Institute and it is located on two locations: in Zagreb and Rovinj. The Division for Marine and Environmental Research is located in Zagreb and the Center for Marine Research in Rovinj. With the new Statute of organisation from 2015, the Library is reconstituted and becomes the Centre for Scientific Information with two divisions: Library and the Department for Information Technologies. The main role of the CSI is to fulfil information needs of RBI researchers, but it is open to the general public as well. Apart from providing research support, CSI’s other important tasks are development of information systems on national and institutional level, support and promotion of Open Science, education and science popularization. CSI has eagerly embraced information technology already in the late nineties and started developing projects at national level, thus paving the way for open information infrastructure in Croatia. Some of the projects are still active today, and were developed continuously. In the last couple of years the emphasis was put on the further development of CROSBI - Croatian Scientific Bibliography, POIROT - Database of Project Activities in Science and Higher Education in Croatia and Šestar - Database of Scientific Instruments. CROSBI was launched in 1997 with the main goal to collect information about scientific output in Croatia, providing bibliographical data, but also offering free access to OA articles if available, thus having some functionality of an open access repository. The major changes started in 2017 with the launch of the new user interface and decentralisation of the administration process to the institutional level. During pandemic years 2020 and 2021, CROSBI COVID-19 hub was implemented and CROSBI profiles were launched which enabled function of the service Who’s who in CROSBI. CROSBI is indexed by OpenAIRE Explore. Projects’ information in CROSBI is retrieved from POIROT. It gathers data about project activities of Croatian higher education and scientific institutions and scientists. POIROT was launched in 2016 and further developed and enhanced in 2018. It is interoperable with OpenAIRE and other information systems (CROSBI and some OA institutional repositories). POIROT, along with the CROSBI, is accepted by the Agency for Science and Higher Education as a source of data for the process of re-accreditation of Croatian higher education institutions. ŠESTAR was developed in 2006 and it provides transparent information about the equipment for scientific research available in the Croatian scientific community. Its main goal is to increase usability and cost-effectiveness of the available scientific instruments, encourage cooperation between researchers and their organizations, as well as cooperation between researchers and industry. All three databases are developed, maintained and administered by CSI. They represent a vital part of the current research information infrastructure in Croatia and will be used as a basis for development of the national Current Research Information System (CRIS) named CroRIS (Croatian Current Research Information System). CroRIS will collect all relevant information about Croatian scientific activity. The launch of CroRIS is planned for the end of 2021.
