Sažetak
This is an overview of the appearance of the work and the name of John Amos Comenius in Croatia, with an emphasis on the period between early 1840s and the beginning of the 20th century. The aim is to draw attention to an almost forgotten fact about the first translation of one of Comenius’s works into Croatian, as well as to contextualize the reception of his works in Croatian pedagogical community of the period. Considering the historical context, Croatian-Czech relations existed in many areas, including schooling and pedagogy. Comenius was an unquestionable authority in Croatian teaching community in the second half of the 19th century and the initial fear that a heretic’s work might impair the unflinching faith of Croatian people did not, after all, have a more significant impact on the reception of his pedagogy related ideas.
