Sažetak
When discussing the attributes of recent global capitalist economy, usually its negative effects (fiscal and overall economic crises, growing disparities and inequalities, unemployment, precariat, social exclusion etc.) have been underlined. While we do not want to diminish the drawbacks it has been inducing, the aim of our paper is to scrutinize its brighter side which we identify in certain democratization potentials and prospects for social inclusion it contains. Hese potentials have been primarily identified within a creative economy, thus in the production of creative and innovative products, patents and, in general, in creation of various new forms of symbolic expression. Our fundamental concern is to delineate the fundamental attributes of certain democratization processes discernible in creative economy. The main thesis we would like to emphasize is that creative economy lacks elitist premises what makes it principally open to everyone’s participation. This tendency has been implied due to immense development and wide permeating of information and communication technologies. Since computers as a powerful production tool of creative goods has become easily accessible, potentials for participation in current economy flows is an outcome of democratization of means of production. In addition, the other crucial prerequisite of democratization is the profound decrease of distribution costs (Anderson 2006). Due to denoted upsurges, a vast number of people, instead of being passive consumers, have become active producers of creative products. The mentioned shifts have been effectively articulated with the concepts prosumer (Toffler 1980) and proamateur (Anderson 2006). However, the query of democratization and inclusion potentials of creative economy have been intimately intertwined with numerous social issues that we accurately dispute in five distinctive sections: (a) the type of 6 Slovensko sociološko srečanje 2014 education (non)required for participation in creative economy ; (b) traits of an organization favourable for creative economic process ; (c) attributes of sociocultural environment suitable for creative production ; (d) the power relation of different individual and collective actors engaged in examined economic system ; (e) the need for finding balance between utilization of creative economic activities and public interests. In concluding notes, we emphasize that in post-industrial environments of developed societies, the economic processes based on creativity of people have become even more profoundly important and thus the assignment of social researchers is to inquiry these developments attentively.
