Sažetak
An increasing number of recent scientific researches has been conducted as interdisciplinary projects. Such collaboration inevitably assumes exceeding the narrow disciplinary boundaries of a particular science and interworking with other disciplines. The indicated perspective of a growing interdisciplinarity implies the necessity to adequately position sociology within an even more ‘interdisciplinary environment’ of contemporary science. The relation of sociology with other (primarily social) sciences is intimately intertwined with several types of issues which are scrutinized in this paper, such as: a) modalities of interdisciplinary connections that sociology could establish ; b) the query of disciplinary identity of an immensely heterogeneous, exceptionally fragmented, multi- paradigmatic and multi-perspective discipline, as is sociology ; c) the question of what is eminently ‘sociological’ in trans-border scientific endeavours in which sociology takes part ; d) the analysis of attributes of levels (epistemological, theoretical, methodological) at which interdisciplinary cooperation emerges ; e) what sociology could provide to and what it may require from other disciplines ; f) what are the potential advantages and positive outcomes of the participation of sociology in the interdisciplinary scientific ventures on the one hand, and what are the jeopardies and flaws on the other. Prior to discussing the denoted matters, I briefly dispute the historical roots, contextual determinants of its emersion, fundamental premises and the meaning of the concept of interdisciplinarity. One of the considered topics is also the implication of the appearance that a particular social phenomenon or process has been examined in an interdisciplinary approach, which might indicate the incapability of sociology to properly explain an entire phenomenology of the social world. In the final section of the paper it is underlined that the query of positioning sociology in a current (intensely interdisciplinary) map of sciences is likewise steadily affined to the considerations of the role, responsibility and challenges of sociology in contemporary societies.
