Sažetak
In this paper, we will provide an overview of some types and applications of mathematical models used for simulating river flow which can be of use in environmental engineering. These include models for environmental impact assessment, pollution degradation speed and thermal pollution monitoring. Since all of the above is based in part on turbulence modelling, we will give most attention to turbulence models, such as SVE and RANS. We will first get acquainted with the underlying physics of river processes, the mathematical formulations and their simplifications, the techniques used to acquire the necessary data, and numerical solutions for solving the differential equations. Then, we will provide an overview of popular modelling techniques for turbulence, thermal and chemical pollution transport. Finally, we will present the process of setting up a preliminary river model in HEC-RAS software.
