Sažetak
This article discusses the early transition which children who started learning EFL at the pre- primary level face upon entering primary school. The transition presents challenges which may determine the effectiveness of future learning. Though acknowledged by many experts, these challenges have not been researched yet. Our study focuses on young learners’ (YLs) and their parents’ views on the transition. In this qualitative study, data were drawn from individual interviews with YLs and surveys with their parents. We compared the perceptions of two groups of learners with different experiences in pre- primary EFL learning. Comparisons were made at the level of children’s motivation, attitudes, self- concept and strategic awareness. Parents’ input was used to triangulate the YLs’ data.
