Sažetak
Besides planning and carrying out lesson programs by employing different methods in the educational system, knowledge assessment also has a very important function. It is of extreme importance particularly in Croatian educational system because it measures the level of quality of student's knowledge through examinations. Various factors influence this complex process and one must be very careful in choosing proper methods and tools which enable to achieve objectivity of the evaluation. Knowledge assessment through available information technologies (IT) is becoming widely used method of evaluation. At Polytechnics of Rijeka, there have been several individual attempts by the teachers in using those methods, whether commercial or open-source. Furthermore, the process of building our own system of knowledge assessment has begun within the Business Department, at the Studies of computer science, in whichthe students are also involved. This paper describes the steps taken which preceded the development of such system.
