Sažetak
The current pandemic has forced people around the world to engage with available digital tools to perform their daily professional duties. Things have changed in many ways: business meetings are being organized online using various platforms ; people participate in conferences from their homes ; teachers deliver teaching online instead of face-to-face in classrooms, etc. Language teaching at tertiary institutions in an online mode has shown to be challenging for both the teachers and students: language learning online has become a novelty for many of them. In order to investigate how students work on their language skills and learn in an online environment, a survey was conducted at University North, Croatia. The data were obtained through the means of a questionnaire administered at the end of the summer semester of 2019/2020, when teaching was primarily conducted online without prior planning. Thus teaching and learning required ad hoc reaction. In addition, this study has given an insight into students’ attitude towards learning English in an online environment, with special focus placed on Merlin (used as the main learning management system) and Zoom (used as the main video conferencing service during lessons). It can be concluded that the overall experience of using technology in learning is quite positive.
