Sažetak
This paper discusses activities of Croatian branch of International Federation of Amies de la Jeunes Filles, starting from its founding in 1926 until 1947, when it ceased to function. The main task of this branch, named in Croatian Zaštitnice djevojaka, was to provide job search assistance to girls and young women who were coming to Zagreb from different parts of the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes / Kingdom of Yugoslavia and abroad. The limited choice of jobs, especially for women, in the research period in Zagreb often forced newcomers to be employed in low-paid jobs in the " ; gray zone" ; of work. It is known that in these jobs they were exposed to economic exploitation and emotional and sexual abuse. Therefore, the members of this women’s humanitarian organization, a group of Zagreb intellectuals, offered their users information about the labor market, paying special attention to the (i)legality and (im)morality of business offers. The basic archival source for considering the selected topic was the material from the holdings of the State Archives in Zagreb and digitized archival documentation containing data related to the everyday life of women in then Yugoslavia. Personal files of psychiatric patients stored in the Archives of the Clinic for Psychiatry Vrapče and the Museum of the City of Pakrac, served as an additional source of data on the disadvantaged position of girls and young women in the then labor market.
