Sažetak
Cadmium and lead are toxic metals with a maximum allowable concentration in waste waters of 2 mg/dm3. The accumulation of these metal by ion exchange resins seems to be most simple and selective method for their separation. The optimum conditions for the elution of metal ions by ion-exchange resins cannot be anticipated by means of the Gregor model of ion exchange. Therefore, we have experimentally determined the optimum values of the concentration of the medium, of the temperature and the pH for metal elution. Two system were investigated: lead-Amberlite-IR-120 and cadmium-Amberlite-IR-120 in the temperature range of 293-343 K, in nitric and hydrochloric acids as the media. The values of the distribution constants and distribution coefficients show that cadmium(II) is optimally eluted with 2.0 M HCl at 323 K. Lead(II) is optimally eluted with 4.0 M HCl at 323 K. On the basis of the distribution constants, the removal of cadmium and lead from sea waters can be otimized.
