Sažetak
The purpose of this paper was to investigate are owners and managers in small and medium enterprises using electronic databases when making business decisions. Research questions were: 1) What is the degree of enterprise computerization and are databases searched with software tools 2) Were internal electronic databases established in researched enterprises 3) Are databases regularly updated in order to be reliable for managers 4) Are external electronic databases used 5) What can be recommended for better use of electronic databases in order to enact the best possible managerial decisions. For theoretical framework on enacting managerial decisions and databases information both domestic and foreign literature were used. For the purpose of empirical research, a survey was conducted on sample of 93 managers on different levels from 93 small and medium enterprises in Croatia. Survey questionnaire covered 3 chapters: 1) general information, 2) managers’ opinions and habits, 3) computerisation of enterprises. Results of conducted research showed that, opposite of expected, 85% of all managers use external databases in their work. Empirical research showed that most frequently used databases are FINA, HNB and Commercial court register, while newer and modern databases, as Bisnode, EL KONCEPT and info.Biz-Fina are still relatively unknown among enterprises and for it, less frequently used, despite containing data with more options, better structured and connected information. For it, it is concluded that there is still a lot of not enough used potential for employing modern external electronic databases while making managerial decisions in small and medium enterprises.
