Sažetak
Nevenka Arbanas has with simplifi ed sculptural forms formed some two hundred ceramic plaques with religious motifs for the Chapel of St Joseph the Workman in Ostrošinci. She formed the local material, clay, and decorated it with vivid colours and glazes that give to the experience of the work both a tactile and a visual dimension. Th e ceramic works are interpolated into the whole of the interior of the chapel, creating a Gesamtkunstwerk with a number of units: Crucifi xion of Christ with Mary and Mary Magdalene, the cycle Garden of Paradise, the ceramic picture from the life of St Joseph the Workman, the saints on the choir screen, St Michael, St Elizabeth, St John, St Catherine and St Joseph, as well as depictions of the grapevine, the Way of the Cross and the Resurrection. As well as these relief plaques, she has also designed and made liturgical equipment (canthari and candlesticks) and two sculptures – St Joseph the Workman and Th e BVM with Jesus in her Arms. Th e Chapel of St Joseph the Workman is a very rare example of a high- quality intervention with works of contemporary art and at the same time a unique specimen of the decoration of a sacred space with ceramics, creating the Terra Slavonica cycle
