Sažetak
Objectives. The main objective of the study was to compare personality tratis and diagnoses of personality disorders of sex offenders and offenders of other crimes. Furthermore, sex offenders with adult victims were compared to sex offenders with minor victims. Methods. This is a single-institution retrospective study of subjects identified as sex offenders and sent for institutional psychiatric evaluation. All written evaluations of people sent for institutional evaluation from 2010 to 2016 were used. Altogether, there were 501 cases, 444 male and 57 female. Of them, there were 57 cases of individuals charged with sexual offences, with 56 male and one female. Demographic, clinical, psychiatric, and legal dana were collected from the evaluations, including the marital status and place of residence, mental disorders diagnosed and prior history of treatment, previous convictions, assessment of criminal responsibility. Results. Personality disorders (ICD-10 F60 code) were diagnosed in 67.4% of sex offenders and in 32.6% of non-sex offenders (χ2=9.444, p=0.002). Among sex offenders, the most frequent personality disorders were antisocial (37.5%) and narcissistic (32.1%), followed by dependent (10.7%), borderline (8.9%) and paranoid personality disorder (3.6%). The rank was similar for the non-sex offenders, but with lower figures: antisocial (27.5%), narcissistic (23.5%), borderline (7.8%), paranoid (3.5%), and dependent personality disorder (2.0%). When comparing sex offenders with adult and with child victims, there was a difference only for the antisocial personality disorder, as 57.1% of those with adult victims and 32.4% of those with child victims had this diagnosis (χ2=4.448, p<0.05). The percentages for narcissistic and borderline personality disorders were 20.0% and 11.4% for those with adult victims and 35.1% and 2.7% for those with child victims. Conclusions. Sex offenders have higher prevalence of personality disorders, compared to non-sex offenders. Those with adult victims have higher prevalence of antisocial personality disorder, compared to those with child victims.
