Sažetak
Standards are important elements to facilitate the technical design process and enable the rapid development of new instruments and tools in all domains of technology. Measurement consistency, data quality and interoperability are the other major factors that is driving standardization. Although a number of standards exist and are applied in ocean technology there is still a lack of native standards that have been developed with specific ocean applications in mind. The IEEE Oceanic Engineering Society has discovered this gap and decided to put a priority on contributing to the development of standards. The field to be addressed will range from hardware design through process definition to software standards. The planned activities will be harmonized and linked to the IEEE Standards Association and also will seek to coordinate with ISO and OGC standards activities.
