Sažetak
The leaf is considered the only commercially valuable part of the tobacco plant and it is used for further processing into tobacco products. Root, stem, damaged or diseased leaves, flowers and seeds are discarded in the field and considered as agricultural waste, while during industrial processing of leaf scrap, tobacco dust and rib are separated. Agricultural tobacco waste can be used in energy and biofuel production. Tobacco industry waste can be used for the production of reconstituted tobacco and expanded rib which is used as a surrogate in the production of cigarettes. Also, tobacco waste can be used as a material for the extraction of bioactive compounds.
