Sažetak
At a time of rethinking teaching and teacher education there is a strong emphasis on the need for teacher professionalization. Literature review on teaching profession shows that there are competencies seen as precondition for quality teaching. Common European Principles for Teacher Competences and Qualifications state that all teachers need competencies that enable them to work with others ; work with knowledge, technology and information ; and work in and with society. National qualification frameworks state competencies necessary for teaching profession on a national level. The paper explores how teacher education enables development of teacher identity, teacher professionalization and acquisition of competencies necessary for quality education.
