Sažetak
For centuries it has been apparent to healers and is known today by physicians that adverse psychological and psychosocial conditions can affect the physiology of an individual poten tially leading to health disorders and illnesses. Exposure to stigmatization and social exclusion of people who already have certain mental disorders and altered states of consciousness is an additional psychogenic stress factor that can lead to a negative spiral of complex chang es in the body and a general deterioration in health. The complex changes in the body that are induced represent a comprehensive and meaningful psychological, neuroimmune and neuroendocrine response to the threat. Today we know more about the mechanisms of how adverse psychological stressors affect our physiology. Understanding the biological basis of psychological problems could help develop new approaches to treatment that will act on their possible neurophysiological causes, rather than just their symptoms. Furthermore, it hopes to help desSigmaSize mental health issues through a biological approach.
