Sažetak
Throughout recent years, nanotechnology was used to enhance fabric attributes. In that field, TiO2 has been utilized extensively. Treating of a wool fiber with TiO2 in studies have been focused mainly on characteristic developing such as self- cleaning, UV-protection, antimicrobial qualities, and modifying of the physical drawbacks of fabrics (felting). In this study, wool fibers felted in a shape of a spheres (0.1 g ; ~7 mm) were examined as a carrier for the TiO2 nanoparticles in order to achieve: (1) higher specific surface area covered with TiO2 that can be used in various types of reactors (2) enhanced contact between pollutants and catalyst thus negligible mass transfer. Wool spheres were pretreated with the hydrogen peroxide to improve surface properties and TiO2 P25 fixing. For the immobilization, modified sol-gel procedure with the help of tetraethoxysilane (TEOS) was used in four layers. Coated wool spheres were used as a photocatalysts in hybrid system: adsorption column/annular type photoreactor under visible light irradiation in a complete recirculation. The photocatalytic degradation of a methylene blue as a referent model compound and imidacloprid, one of emerging pollutants that can be found in surface waters, were measured. To determine adsorption capacity of coated wool spheres, jar tests were conducted. The characterization of wool spheres coated with TiO2 in terms of phase composition, crystal structure, and morphology were investigated using X-ray Diffraction, Raman Spectroscopy, Scanning Electron Microscopy, and Energy Dispersive X-ray spectroscopy.
