Sažetak
The paper revolves around the problem of relation between time, space, memory and narration. In the novel Investigator Dragan Velikić tells the story of his past, his childhood and his family following the path of different spaces – cities, neighbourhoods, houses – he occupied or visited while growing up. Cities and places he encounters (Beograd, Rijeka, Labin, Raša, Pula…) help him to fill the lacunas in his memory and establish a (counter)story, or, to be more precise, a series of (counter)stories of his life. As Jelena Todorović claims (2017: 91), Velikićʾs novel is „a recollection, an illusionary memoir, and a pursuit of the true nature of the past“ and does not belong „just to one age, but carries within itself endless temporalities“. Velikićʾs narration shifts constantly between the past and the present, making the past encoded in everyday spaces and objects an important part of present life. Because of the relation between time and space in human memory the past never ceases to exist and restores itself over and over again in its narrative form. Investigator reveals this true nature of temporality as basis of human understanding of existence that shifts between recollection and oblivion.
