Sažetak
Czech industrialist Tomas Bat’a, the owner of the Bat’a company specialized in manufacturing of the footwear and rubber, during the 1920s created a territorial network of Bat'a company towns in Europe and worldwide, so called satellite Bat’a towns, which headquarters was the industrial and functional town of Zlin, Czech Republic. The planned investments for the constructions, as well as the architectural and urban projects of the satellite towns of the Bat’a company derived from the Construction Bureau in Zlin, which generated absolute transformations of the space according to the principles of the International style. By using an example of the satellite Bat’a town in Borovo, Republic of Croatia, we can trace continuous changes of the given space as a result of the historical circumstances. Through this research we follow a couple of periods of Borovo’s transformation. After the WWI “the conceptual identity” contributes to International Modern architecture and urban planning, as part of the Bat’ company town network when Borovo aimed to become a regional center of the planned conurbation. “The real identity” of the town corresponds to the constructed Bat’a satellite town and the continuation of constructions after the WWII, when it reaches its climax which lasts till the 1990s, when a negative development cycle begins as well as its degradation. And finally, the main focus of the research is based on the “Nowaday’s identity” which encompasses today’s condition of this space under the institutional protection as a listed heritage. We analyze the existing approach and protection by the means of critical questioning in order to find ways of revitalization of Bat'a's heritage in Borovo. Can we intervene inside a modern historical unit and which are the best ways to use in order to connect the unescapable theory of change with the modern architecture as well as to enble its persistance of the town dematerialization? The goal of this research is to recognize the potential for development of public policies as well as the instruments of urban planning in regards to sustainable conservation by the ways of using the modern historical architecture. In case of sustainable approach of Borovo as a zone of future transformation, we analyze the relationship of the ex-users and potential opportunities for the future users with benefits for the local community.
