Sažetak
In addition to the significant role in the treatment of bacterial diseases, primarily mastitis, intestinal infections and pneumonia, sulphonamides are used as fodder additives. The disadvantage of antimicrobial therapy in dairy is the residue of biologically active substances in milk and milk products. As milk and milk products present the basic victual in human nutrition, milk should be regularly controlled for residues of veterinary medicines to protect health of consumer and to prevent damages in dairy industry. The purpose of this paper is to control milk for sulphonamide residues in relation to the amounts as permitted by the Regulations on the Content of Pesticides...(Official Gazette of the Republic of Croatia No 39/2003). Analyses were caried out on samples of milk provided by individual producers in the district of Pitomača. To determine sulphonamides, the laboratory test LabSulfamilk manufactured by Frank analab d.o.o. was used. This is a rapid, semi-quantitative colorimetric test for the presence of sulphonamides exceeding the quantity of 100 ppb. The obtained results were compared with the confirmed positive samples of milk taken from cows that has been treated with Trimetosul 48% suspension. Positive reaction to sulphonamide residues was found in 10 % of the examined samples.
