Sažetak
My paper will draw on the experience of Vera Erlich and her work as anthropologist and a progressive Jewish intellectual caught up in the daring circumstances of wartime Croatia. The story of her anthropological research, that was started in the 1930s in the circumstances of changing patriarchal mores in Yugoslavia, continued to become her life-long research on the changes in the family structure in the South Slavic village. The paper will reveal the art of survival of a Jewish intellectual woman under the fascist dictatorship, and later an exile in Italy and the US.
