Sažetak
Due to the prevalence in fossil fuel usage worldwide, international agreements have been made to reduce carbon emissions and make the switch to renewable resources. Hydrogen has appeared as a possible green alternative fuel source, but due to a plethora of current problems with manufacture, transport, and storage it is still not possible to make the transition. Ammonia has presented itself as a realistic vector for the conversion to a hydrogen-based economy due to the widespread usage and because there is existing infrastructure for production, transport, and storage. The ammonia combustion process, as a zero-carbon emission fuel, represents significant potential for reducing global carbon emission levels, but its chemical kinetics still remains subject of research efforts. The objective of the current work was to numerically investigate influence of the changing pressure on emission characteristics of ammonia/methane/air mixtures. Fuel blends of ammonia/methane/air have been used at various pressure levels and equivalence ratios and found that an increase in pressure led to a change in tracked emission levels of NO, CO, CO2, and O2, which were deemed essential markers of combustion efficiency for ammonia fuel blend combustion. Comparison of emission characteristics at differing pressure levels has shown significant decrease in NO concentrations with the rise of pressure, while CO and CO2 were affected to a lower degree. Analysis of the O radical species has shown its strong influence on NO formation, but comparison with the experimental results indicated that chemical kinetics of ammonia/methane/air blends still requires further research.
