Sažetak
Research and development of heart pumps is focused on achieving greater hemocompatibility. Besides stagnation zones and recirculation zones, wall shear stress is parameter that is used to predict pump hemocompatibility i.e., amount of mechanical damage caused by pump on blood cells. Blood is biological non-Newtonian fl uid with shear- thinning behavior (viscosity decreases under shear strain) aff ecting wall shear stress values. In order to calculate wall shear stress and blood fl ow in heart pump, blood as non-Newtonian fl uid has to be numerically modeled.
