Sažetak
The aim of this study was to estimate the potential for surgical prophylaxis of ovarian cancer, expressed as the share of preventable cases in a total number of diagnosed ovarian cancer cases. Available measures for surgical prophylaxis include ovariectomies in women with a strong family history of ovarian cancer, as well as in older women at the time of hysterectomy or non-gynecological laparotomy, with patient's consent obtained previously. If the perfect compliance for optional ovariectomy at the time of hysterectomy, non-gynecologic laparotomy or in women with strong family history of ovarian cancer could be achieved in clinical practice, up to 13% of ovarian cancer cancer could be prevented through surgical prophylaxis.
