Sažetak
In Eastern Europe, positive psychology is the most developed in Croatia, Czech Republic, Hungary and Turkey, where it emerged a few years after itwas founded and resulted in substantial number of scientific studies, booksand positive psychology programs and conferences. The Czech Republic, Hungary and Croatia share similar history, religion andcultural values that are quite different from those in Turkey. All countries inEastern Europe struggle with various economic and political problems, andwith specific crises. The rapid transition in Eastern Europe increased stressand decreased well-being, posing great challenge to positive psychologists. Positive psychology can improve the lives of people in this region throughseveral pathways including building optimism and other strengths, breakingdown prejudices towards psychotherapy/counseling and developing programsfor children, youth and other vulnerable groups. However, obstacles such asdifferent cultural values or negative attitudes of academic community andgeneral public should not be neglected.
