Sažetak
Modern communication systems utilize beamforming to increase the transmission quality. An example of beamformer implementation is the uniform linear array of antenna elements. Such array can be considered as a spatial finite impulse response filter, which opens a possibility to employ the well-known methods from filter design. A common analytical method used in the design of uniform linear arrays forming pencil beampatterns is windowing. It can be applied in excitation or azimuth domain. Other than the pencil beams, patterns which have a flat response inside a defined angular sector can also be achieved. In the design of flat-top beampatterns, analytical and simple optimization methods are desirable since they assure fast and robust design. This work presents various methods for designing arrays forming pencil beampatterns along with their comparation and evaluation. Analytical and optimization methods obtaining flat-top beampatterns have also been reviewed. Finally, the impact of realistic antenna pattern on the array design is discussed and simulated.
