Sažetak
The introduction outlines the complex operating conditions of railway rails, affecting their condition in a track with permanently present dynamic stresses. The paper summarizes the recommendations on the basis of the analysis of rail damages on five European railways (DB, SCCF, BR, NS and SBB), as well as the results of the analysis of rail damages in USA and Association of Independent States, the former USSR. A broad description of damages and breakages of rails on the JŽ railway lines is given, pointing to very varied and specific operating conditions. The analysis of the statistics of rail damages and breakages on the JŽ lines is also dealt with by individual railway transport enterprise and for the entire JŽ network.
