Sažetak
The paper analyses data for import of steel for work organisation from the Socialist Republic of Bosnia and Hercegovina in 1982, the 1985 plann, approved and non-approved import in 1986. Data are classified according to product types into 9 and 12 groups, respectively, with the aim of substituting imported by domestic steels. Polling ironworks indicated that under fsavourable conditions the manufacturing of 797 items could be accepted (65% of 1, 226, or as much as 87% of the quantity with polled users). After basic criteria of sorting were applied, a list with 568 items was obtained which need not be imported. That points to the possibility of great foreign exchange savings provided systematic work is carried out regarding that problem with users who often are not sufficiently informed about the capabilities of local steel manufacturers. Data gathered by the Yugoslav Iron and Steel Works Federation about approved and non-approved steel imports in 1986 are very interesting. Imports were requested of three times more items compared with the user poll with half the total amount of steel. An estimate of potential capabilities of local manufacturers comprised 2, 444 items out of a total of 3, 671 (66.58%), or 69, 54% of the quantity. By applying basic criteria of sorting they arrived at 768 items in the proposal of the standards list, which need not be imported. In order to have such actions at an all-Yugoslav level it would be necessary to have computerised data bases by type of product in the Yugoslav Chamber of Economy - Association of the Iron and Steel Industry. That would considerably facilitate and accelerate the resolving of such tasks in the future, because they are more reliable and accurate that data collected by polling users.
