Sažetak
Empirical data largely supported the hypothesis of the negative effect of anxiety on the general self-efficacy of athletes, as well as Bandura's self-efficacy theory assumption of the close relationship between collective efficacy and self- efficacy. Thus, the question emerges whether a team's collective efficacy protects general self-efficacy from the harmful effects of anxiety. To test this question, we comprised 117 handball athletes (Mage = 19.06 (3.70) ; Nmale = 84, Nfemale = 33) who completed the Sport Anxiety Scale, Collective Efficacy Questionnaire for Sports and General Self-Efficacy Scale. The results of moderation analyses showed moderation effects of collective efficacy in the relationship between worry and general self-efficacy, and between concentration and self-efficacy. Higher collective efficacy attenuated the harmful effects of certain levels of worry and reduced concentration on self-efficacy. In other words, teams with higher collective efficacy may enhance the general self-efficacy of athletes with no or increased worry and decreased concentration. However, those positive effects of collective efficacy may not be present among the individuals who face high levels of worry and deficient concentration levels. The effect of somatic anxiety on general self-efficacy was not significant nor dependent on collective efficacy. We discussed results within the Bandura's self-efficacy theory, theorizing the possible moderating role of anxiety in the relationship between collective and self-efficacy.
