Sažetak
This papers deals with a close examination and an objective valorisation of the role that sea ports have acquired in newly created circumstances of the globalised world market and maritime transport, based on logistical principles and networks. The prospects acquired by Croatian sea ports in the process of European integration represent a new dimension, both where the transportation of cargoes nad passengers is involved. The authors have analysed the reasons for underdevelopment of Croatian sea ports, laying an emphasis upon the need for the port system to be adopted to new, more complex and increasingly demanding logistical functions. A new concept has been proposed for the development of Croatian port system, as a result of the realistically grounded port operation policy with precisely determined targets, measures, and investments required. With a well coordinated and responsible approach by all participants in the creation and realisation of port, transport, and shipping policies, Croatian sea ports can become significant logistical hub points within Croatian transport system and the skeleton of its future development.
