Sažetak
A narrative is a logically ordered chain of events. This means that in addition to the linguistic elements needed to mark the content of the story, children must learn how to structure the story. Traditionally, settings, initiating events, internal response, attempts, outcomes and resolution are treated as story grammar components that allow the listener to follow the story. The aim of this study is to compare the narrative ability of children with Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) and children with typical language development (TLD) assessed by the Multilingual Assessment Instrument for Narratives (MAIN). How children with DLD structure the narrative in two conditions – story generation and retelling is the main question of this study. Results demonstrate that children with TLD outperform children with DLD at the macrostructure level in both conditions. In addition to the main findings of the study, the discussion about macrostructure level and how to encourage it during the SLP intervention will be provided as well.
